The One Show presenter Alex Jones, 43, revealed she was “crying” on air when BBC Breakfast’s Steph McGovern joined her on BBC Radio Wales last weekend. The mum-of-two admitted she was “emotional” after the Channel 4 presenter opened up about how far the two of them have come in their careers so far.

I’m actually crying.

It comes after Alex asked Steph all about her new Channel 4 daytime show Steph’s Packed Lunch.

“I have to ask because sometimes you get that sort of ‘pinch me’ moment, and can you believe and did you ever think that you would have a show that was being created around you?

“It makes me really emotional for you,” she continued as she started to choke up on her words before Steph interrupted with: “Oh!”

Alex went on: “Your own studio. It’s really exciting.”

Steph confessed: “Don’t you’ll make me cry!”

“Did you ever think that was ever going to be a possibility?” the BBC host went on to ask.

“No, well you and I, Al, are from similar backgrounds,” Steph replied.

“Statistically, people with our backgrounds [don’t] tend to do what we get to do.”

She shared: “It’s a bit of luck but also it’s a lot of hard work, even though I’ve worked really hard.”

“I’m emotional,” Alex confessed. “I’m actually crying.”

The presenter said: “So, we need to have a bit of music and then we’ll come back and we’ll compose ourselves and we’ll be fine.”

During the same show, Alex said she has some regrets over her parenting book called Winging It!: Parenting in the Middle of Life!.

The BBC presenter published her book in 2018 before welcoming her second baby Kit, after her first son, Teddy, was born in 2017.

The topic of Alex’s book came up when actress Helen Lederer, 65, joined her on her show.

She began: “The winner of the unpublished category becomes published, so that’s a dream come true, and the published winner gets dosh and stickers.

“You’ve written a book about parenting haven’t you Alex?”

“Oh gosh, let’s not talk about that Helen…gosh,” the latter interjected.

Helen went on to press: “Was that about a year ago or two years ago?”

She replied: “It was probably about three now but that is not nominated for any awards, not surprisingly, and the mistake I made was writing it when I only had one child.”

Alex went on to say: “Who knew that you’d know so much more by two!”
