The One Show presenter Alex Jones, 44, has revealed that she has “beef” with government agency the DVLA, as she faces delays in getting her driver’s licence renewed. Speaking on the show’s Watchdog segment to consumer expert Matt Allwright, the BBC host detailed her issues in renewing her driving licence.
I’m trying to renew my licence and it’s taking forever
Speaking to her colleague, the Welsh star’s frustration over the issue was visible, as she asked the consumer guru for an update.
Alex said: “Tell me Matt, what is going on with the DVLA?”
Bemused at her annoyance, Matt replied: “I’m sensing you have some beef, [do] you have some skin in the game here Al?” he asked as their co-star Jermaine Jenas started laughing.
Admitting that she was in the process of getting her driving licence renewed, the BBC presenter said it was taking a while.
“Well a little bit, I’m trying to renew my licence and it’s taking forever,” Alex confessed.
The star revealed that she had taken to checking the post everyday in anticipation of her licence’s arrival, but has so far had no luck.
Alex explained: “Everyday I check the mat by the front door and every day there is no new licence,” she fumed.
Sadly for Alex, Matt told her that she was one of many others facing delays.
He replied to his colleague: “I see your frustration, but join the queue, quite literally.
“The DVLA who dish out driving licences, or as we’re calling them tonight, the DV-delay,” he joked, prompting jeers from his co-stars on the green sofa.
After revealing that the Welsh TV star wasn’t the only one suffering delays, the consumer expert revealed that the DVLA had addressed the long waiting times.
Matt said: “They say if you are renewing your licence you can in most cases, Alex Jones, continue to drive whilst they are processing it even if it’s expired, as long as you haven’t been told by your doctor or optician that you shouldn’t drive.”
However, the mother-to-be continued to ask her colleague what it was that was causing the problem.
Matt replied helpfully: “The DVLA have said they’ve been hit by a series of strikes at their centre in Swansea.
“They say there is no need to chase up your application, they are dealing with them systematically and that it’s taking on average between six to 10 weeks to process.”
However, Matt went on to urge viewers to try and resolve their issues online if possible.
Earlier this week the star hinted that her co-star Jermaine could make the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 line-up.
The presenting duo quizzed judge Craig Revel Horwood about the upcoming series of the BBC dance competition and Alex even dropped a hint about the celebrity line-up.
“If you’re looking for contestants though,” she said while pointing towards her co-host Jermaine.
“You would be fantastic,” Craig exclaimed, with Alex adding: “It’s just an idea. A suggestion.”
