Gardeners World presenter Monty Don shares awkward struggle after dinner party

Monty Don presents Gardeners’ World

Monty Don revealed he was left struggling after he attended a dinner party.

The Gardener’s World host, 68, recalled the awkward moment he had “trouble” all weekend after being served a certain vegetable with his meal.

The British horticulturist admitted he is unable to digest Jerusalem artichokes.

He didn’t hold back when he told Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett about his ordeal on their podcast Dish from Waitrose.

The presenter detailed all as he admittedly enjoyed “seconds and thirds” of the dish.

Monty said: “And they served them at dinner, and I had seconds and thirds. I spent the rest of the weekend looking for places to break wind”.

The gardening expert said he is having the same issue with beetroot at the moment, but he has not worked out why you suddenly cannot digest foods you once loved.

Monty continued: “It’s a lot to do with soil, so for example, if you have acidic soil”.

“You’re going to have trouble with brassicas, and you’re going to find problems with cabbages, and all that family, because they just don’t like it, it’s not your fault.”

He added: “Truth is, I’m quite good at growing vegetables.”

Earlier this month he revealed he is taking up his third gardening show with the BBC, which will be on our screens in 2024.

The popular TV star will front a new series in addition to Gardeners’ World and his current American Gardens series.

Fans will see Monty head off to Spain and other destinations across Europe.

Monty Don shared a sneak peek of the stunning landscape gardens that will feature on the show.

He took to Instagram to share the glimpse with his 1.2 million followers.

The veteran presenter penned: “Have spent the day sequestered away writing VO for ‘Monty Don’s Spanish Gardens’ that will be shown on BBC2 in January. This picture of a superb garden near Avila designed by Miguel Orquijo.”

Fans were quick to praise the presenter as they expressed their excitement for the new series as one wrote: “Fantastic! Just the programme for January to cheer us up.”

Series 4 of Dish from Waitrose, hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, is available on all podcast providers now.
