Kacey Musgraves surprised her fans by bringing Gloria Gaynor on to the stage during her concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York on Tuesday. The two performed a duet of Gaynor’s huge 1978 hit, “I Will Survive.”
Musgraves started the song by herself but then paused at the mid-point of the first verse, when Gaynor emerged and took where she left off as the crowd cheered.
“I Will Survive” reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 and became a smash hit all over the world after Gaynor released it in 1978.
The singers hugged after the duet. “Isn’t she wonderful?” Gaynor said. “I recorded this song in 1975, 40 years ago, and I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Kacey is carrying on the tradition, helping you all to survive.”
“Thank you for joining me,” Musgraves replied.
Gaynor post a video on Instagram of herself with Musgraves in the dressing room sharing a handclasp.
“Backstage with @spaceykacey last night at @radiocitymusichall after our surprise duet! You are such a sweetheart, Kacey!” she captioned the clip.
