Hollywood heavyweights Helen Mirren and Liam Neeson "loved each other very, very much" during their four-year romance in the 1980s.
Whilst making 1981's fantasy epic Excalibur, in which Helen, 77, played Morgana Le Fay and Liam, 70, breathed life into Sir Gawain, the pair developed feelings for one another and later moved in together.
The pair later split however, with Helen marrying American filmmaker Taylor Hackford and Liam tied the knot with Natasha Richardson, who tragically passed away after a skiing accident in 2009.
Opening up on her past relationship with Liam, the Fast & Furious star recently told AARP: "All my boyfriends had to have a shirt made by me.
"I did make one for Liam, oddly enough.
"We loved each other. We were not meant to be together in that way, but we loved each other very, very much. I love him deeply to this day.
"He’s such an amazing guy," Helen added.
This isn't the first time she's recounted their relationship, as three years agowhile taking a seat on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, guest presenter Sean Hayes referenced Helen's adoration for the great outdoors.
"I once went camping with Liam Neeson, because we used to date. We lived together for four years before Liam was the humongous movie star that he is today," she said.
"We went camping in this tiny little tent, the size of this table, and we drove there in this tiny little car. Liam is like 6 ft 4, his head was touching the top, and he was driving like this [slouching her body].
"We camped in this tiny little tent. It rained all day, everyday. We were camping in Cornwall, then we went camping in France."
Famed for portrayals of Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List, Qui-Gonn Jinn in Star Wars and Bryan Mills in the Taken film series, Liam has returned his ex's kind words on several occasions too.
Recalling a sense of love at first sight, the Northern Irishman shared: "Before I met her and we worked together, I had read somewhere that if she fancied a guy she would imitate his walk behind his back, and I turned around one day and she was doing that to me.
"I remember being on the set and standing with Ciarán Hinds [who appeared in Excalibur as King Lot] as Helen walked towards us dressed in her full Morgana Le Fey costume and we both went, 'Oh f**k' and I was smitten."
