Jamie Lynn Spears Is "Blindsided" After Nonprofit Declines Proceeds from Her Memoir Sales

Amid backlash to Jamie Lynn Spears’ memoir (more on that in a moment), mental health nonprofit This Is My Brave has announced they’ll be turning down proceeds from the book. “We hear you. This Is My Brave was recently recommended to be a beneficiary organization for the proceeds from Jamie Lynn Spears’ upcoming book,” they wrote in a statement. “We have made the decision to decline the offer of receiving proceeds from the book sales.”

The decision has apparently caused Jamie Lynn to be “blindsided.”

“Jamie Lynn was totally blindsided by them publicly walking away. The organization was recommended and vetted and knew we were donating, but they’ve been overwhelmed,” a source told People, in part. “Unfortunately with them backing out, they are essentially saying that one person’s mental health struggles are more valid and important than another. They took a clear stand on whose story they thought had more value to them. Seems their actions don’t align with their mission of supporting all voices.”

Jamie Lynn has faced a lot of criticism for her memoir, which first caused backlash over the summer when it appeared to be titled I Must Confess: Family, Fame, and Figuring It Out—an obvious reference to Britney’s hit single “…Baby One More Time,” which fans felt was exploitative.

Britney has since made her feelings about the memoir clear, writing on Instagram “Psssssss also great news … I’m thinking of releasing a book next year but I’m having issues coming up with a title so maybe my fans could help !!!! Option #1 … “Shit, I really don’t know” Option #2 … “I really care what people think” !!!!” What do you guys think ????”

FYI, Jamie doesn’t appear to have commented directly on This Is My Brave declining her memoir proceeds at this point.
