Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” video has surpassed the one billion views mark on YouTube, becoming her sixth visual to exceed one billion views on the platform.
Perry released “Wide Awake” as the final single from her Teenage Dream album in 2012, and the song appeared on the set’s deluxe reissue, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.
The song peaked at No.2 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of 26 weeks on the chart.
The “Wide Awake” video sees Perry continuing the narrative from the “California Gurls” visual. In the follow-on video, she goes back to her dressing room, where she removes the wig she was wearing in the previous clip and enters a dark other realm.
She then finds herself in a labyrinth of ivy-covered stone walls, navigates her way with an old-fashioned lantern, faces numerous obstacles, like walls that move in on her and trick mirrors with paparazzi behind them.
Perry’s “Roar” and “Dark Horse” have amassed over 3.7 billion views and 3.4 billion views, respectively. “Firework,” “Hot n Cold” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” all have over one billion views each. “The One That Got Away,” with 968 million views already, is set to hit the magical mark as well.
