Meghan Markle smiles as she gets red carpet welcome in Germany with Prince Harry

Meghan Markle smiled happily as she and Prince Harry received a red carpet welcome in Germany on Tuesday.

Meghan, 41, and Harry, 37, stepped out into the bright sunshine in Dusseldorf watched by a waiting crowd who had gathered at the front of the city’s Town Hall.

The couple are attending a reception for an Invictus Games event, marking the one-year countdown to the Dusseldorf 2023 games.

The pair are expected to meet officials and potential competitors in the city on Tuesday.

Members of the public clapped and raised their phones in their air to get pictures as the couple arrived. after they arrived in the city ahead of the launch of the Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023.

Meghan continued her sartorial tour as she wore her seemingly-favoured wide-legged trousers in a pale pink (she's also been seen in red ones and a bronze pair since arriving in the UK yesterday).

She teamed the trousers with a white halter neck top that was reminiscent of the halter neck Stella McCartney dress that she wore to her wedding reception after her nuptials to Prince Harry in 2018.

The Invictus Games was founded by Prince Harry in 2014, and it's a multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans.

The Duke and Duchess' appearance in Germany comes after Meghan, 41, made her first UK public speech since Megxit in Manchester on Monday 5 September.

Meghan addressed future world leaders at the One Young World Summit as she expressed her joy at being back on UK soil with husband Prince Harry, 37, by her side.

The couple’s visit to the UK and Germany follows last week's publishing wide-ranging interview with The Cut magazine, in which she said it takes “a lot of effort” to forgive and hinted that she can “say anything”.

The former Suits star said in that interview that “just by existing” she and Harry were “upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy” before they stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.

Meghan's third Archetypes podcast was released on Spotify on Tuesday 6 September, and the Duchess discussed her life growing up.

Speaking to her latest guest, Mindy Khaling, Meghan described herself as a "shy loner" and an "ugly duckling" during her years at school.

After Mindy asked Meghan: "Were you not the pretty one growing up?" Meghan replied: "No, god no. Ugly duckling. Not conventional beauty – maybe now that would be seen as beautiful.

"I had massive frizzy curly hair. I had a huge gap in my teeth.

"I was the smart one, forever and ever and ever. And then just sort of grew up."

She added: "I never had anyone to sit with at lunch.

"I was always a little bit of a loner and really shy. I didn't know where I fit in.
