TV star Monty Don took to Instagram yesterday to document a garden transformation that still amazes him. The 65-year-old gardener posted a picture online which showcased an impressive 27-year transformation.

Monty’s social media snap, which he shared with his 605,000 followers, showcased four well established trees in his stunning garden at home.

The tall trees were surrounded by neatly trimmed hedges and captured numerous shades of green as summer draws to a close.

A second snap showed the mature tree canopies reaching high into the sky.

The gardening enthusiast told fans he was “amazed” to think that almost three decades ago, they were small enough to fit in the palm of his hand.

He captioned the photo: “Sometimes I am amazed to think that 27 years ago I planted these trees – each small enough to carry in one hand.”

Stunned social media followers and fans rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts and marvel at the transformation, likening it to watching children grow up.

“A garden is like raising ones children: you blink and suddenly is mature enough to overwhelm you,” one Instagram user remarked.

“Love this. What a delight watching them grow,” a second added.

“Blessed to sit in their shade with your grandchild,” another follower added.

Monty lives in Herefordshire with his wife of 37 years Sarah and their beloved dogs.

The couple have three grown-up children Adam, Tom and Freya and are now grandparents to George Jack who was born in May last year.
