My pregnancy anxiety means I cant be without my partner for more than 20 mins, says Shaughna Phillips

Love Island fan-favourite Shaughna Phillips announced her pregnancy with her first child with partner Billy in October, sharing her excitement at embarking on the adventure of parenthood.

The 28 year old had come off the pill over the summer and fell pregnant just two months later, describing the moment she saw the positive test as an "out-of-body experience".

Now, well into her journey to becoming a mum, the reality star is spilling all the details about her pregnancy. This week, she's opened up on some new symptoms she's experienced, including a horrific bout of heartburn as well as her sudden anxiety.

In her exclusive OK! magazine column, Shaughna gives fans and mothers-to-be her first hand, unfiltered experience…

My anxiety is getting bad

I've had really bad anxiety and I think it must be because I'm pregnant. I feel like the world is a lot more dangerous. I suddenly don't want anyone to leave the house – my boyfriend, my mum… I'm just terrified something is going to happen. I'm the type of person who puts the news on in the background when there's nothing else to watch, so I'm taking it in without realising. I end up going to bed feeling like I've got the weight of the world on my shoulders.

Last week, my boyfriend told me he was going to go out to get petrol and that he'd ring me right back. I was like, 'Alright, no worries'. But after about 20 minutes, I texted saying, 'Are you alright?' and he didn't get back to me – obviously, because he was driving. I didn't come to that conclusion though and I was convinced that he'd had a car crash or the petrol station had exploded… I rang his mum to ask if she'd heard from him. It was just so silly because he was driving. It just really panicked me.

Now, every time he goes out I ask him to text me as soon as he gets to where he's going. I tell him to drive the speed limit and ask if he really needs to go out when it's raining. It's tiring, I'm worrying about it all the time.

I can't sleep properly

I've been feeling quite restless and haven't been sleeping particularly well. The other night I woke up at 3am. I was tossing and turning, I couldn't sleep. And the thing is, once I wake up, that's it, I can't go back to sleep.

Before, I was able to sleep through the entire night without even needing to get up to go to the toilet. Maybe it's psychological, but since the day I found out about my pregnancy, I haven't slept through the whole night once. I get up at least once a night and often can't get back to sleep.

Heartburn is so painful

I had heartburn from 9am to when I went to sleep at 10pm the other night – that's 11 hours straight! And the thought of taking Gaviscon makes me feel sick, so I've just been riding it out. The heartburn has been happening every day for the past week. It's awful – I can't believe I went the full day with it.

I told Billy, my partner, about it and he asked me: 'Does it feel real to you yet?' and I suppose it does because I feel the baby moving now. Because I have reminders every day, like heartburn or movement, it's a bit more real to me now.

I have a surprising new symptom

I've gone two full weeks without washing my hair and it's because it doesn't actually need to be washed. I think it's actually because the baby is zapping me for all of my nutrients, so my hair is just not getting greasy.

A friend of mine who has two children asked me if I'd notice this happening and at first I was like, 'No, not really'. And then last week I realised that I hadn't washed my hair in so long. It's incredible! There are some tiring and difficult sides to pregnancy, but there are some unexpected positives too.

My baby loves Drake

I've definitely noticed more of a pattern in terms of the baby's movements now. I tried laying on my side and playing music to the belly recently and it made the baby really, really active. I know some people play classical music, but I played Drake. The baby loved it! It was strange.

Billy still can't feel the movements, which is annoying. I was on my side the other day and put his hand on my belly and the baby kicked on the other side of where Billy was holding. This baby is being difficult. It's definitely an Aries.

I'm planning my baby moon

I had to arrange an appointment for my midwife because I need to get a fit to fly certificate for my trip to Los Angeles in January. I booked the holiday before I got pregnant and it was going to be a surprise for Billy for his birthday. But then obviously I found out about my pregnancy so I moved the holiday forward from February.

I'm still going to be about 28-29 weeks pregnant when I fly, which is why I need to get a fit to fly certificate. I'm a little nervous about it. At the moment, I'm low risk for everything – like pre-eclampsia. I just need to double check when I'm closer to the flight. Hopefully everything will be fine, because travel insurance does not cover labour!
