This Morning host Phillip Schofield, 58, jokingly issued a warning to his co-star Alison Hammond, 45, after she revealed the ITV daytime show won a TV Choice Award. The daytime show managed to beat its rival Good Morning Britain to be crowned Best Daytime Show.

Holly Willoughby, 39, and her co-star were left stunned after they were presented with their award.

Alison celebrated the news with blue and yellow confetti to mark the achievement alongside the main This Morning presenters.

She said: “This Morning has won a TV Choice Award for Best Daytime TV show everyone. It’s in the oven.

“Because of Covid, there’s no award show or anything. This is the fifth one we’ve won now. We’ve beat GMB, Piers Morgan, Loose Women, The Chase.”

Holly added: “And we do like this award because it’s voted for by the readers.”

Phillip said: “If you did vote for us what can we say but thank you very, very much. And sorry Piers.”

Holly then joked: “I can feel another glass of champagne coming on,” with her colleague very much in agreement.

Alison then interjected: “On behalf of the nation, the team and everyone backstage have been amazing.

“You guys have been amazing along with Eamonn [Holmes] and Ruth [Langsford], Rochelle [Humes], Dermot [O’Leary] and Ore [Oduba] and myself obviously.”

She continued: “And everyone here. The whole team and everyone backstage in the gallery.

“Seriously, on behalf of the nation you have been absolutely amazing and you do deserve this. This is due to Covid why we’ve got this and we do deserve it.”

Phillip began to chuckle at Alison’s lengthy message before she reiterated that This Morning deserved the win.

Phillip jokingly warned: “Stop. Alison, stop now.”

This is the fifth year in a row that This Morning have won the prestigious award.

Following the coronavirus pandemic, the regular TV award show was cancelled and instead the acceptance speeches were streamed online for viewers.

Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd thanked fans after he won the award for Best Actor.

He gushed: “It’s my first one but hopefully not my last. Thank you to everybody that voted, it means the world.”

Elsewhere, other big winners of the TV Choice Awards tonight included Coronation Street for Best Soap Award, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway for Best Entertainment Show and Peaky Blinders for Best Drama series among many others.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
