Prince Harry will be "under intense scrutiny" as he attends Prince Philip's funeral following his and Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex, 36, will join Prince William,Kate Middleton,Prince Charles and a number of other royals as they make up the 30 mourners attending Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday 17 April.

Harry, whom will reportedly rush home to Meghan Markle within 24 hours of Prince Philip’s funeral, has been in isolation at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor ahead of the service, which will be watched across the globe.

The Duke of Sussex is understood to have had a close relationship with his grandfather, who was 99 when he passed away on Friday 9 April. But, according to reports, the bond became strained following Harry and 39 year old Meghan’s decision to step down from their roles as senior royals.

It’s also been claimed that the strain worsened when Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was aired, during which the couple claimed a member of the Firm asked what colour their son Archie’s skin would be before his birth.

After the pair reportedly shared regrets over the explosive interview, Harry is said to be under “intense scrutiny”, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.

The expert told Daily Star: “Prince Harry and William, Harry in particular, will be under intense scrutiny, as they should be.

“The interview was unprecedented and it damaged the Royal Family’s reputation.

“It was just two months ago he and Meghan sat down with Oprah and it hasn’t been long enough for the British public to forgive.”

Richard went on to explain that it’s important to remember Prince Harry and Prince William are there to mourn, however, and people should be respectful.

Brothers Harry and William, whom royal aides reportedly claimed are “walking on eggshells” around, are said to have had “great respect for their grandfather” and wish to honour him on his funeral.

Richard added to the publication: “All eyes will be on them and I’m sure the nation will remember the tearful moment the boys walked behind their mother, Princess Diana, coffin.

“It’s important to remember the pair had great respect for their grandfather however, and they’re there to honour him.”

Harry and William are said to have set their differences aside to focus on honouring their grandfather.

Harry’s biographer Omid Scobie said: “I think across the board in the royal family right now everyone is really looking at putting differences aside to focus the one thing that matters and that’s focusing on Prince Philip’s life and legacy but also rallying around the Queen during her time of need.”
