Sam Thompson shares theory Michael Owen secured Gemmas Love Island safety in contract

Made In Chelsea favourite Sam Thompson has predicted an interesting turn of events when it comes to this year's series of Love Island.

The 29-year-old reality star turned to his 1.4 million Instagram followers on Tuesday night to share his theory that contestant Gemma Owen is relying on her famous footballing father Michael Owen to ensure she stays in the show for the long-run.

Speaking to girlfriend Zara McDermott in a vlog whilst watching last night's episode – which saw the original line-up's Amber Beckford and Ikenna Ekwonna brutally dumped – Sam jokes: "Gemma, just knowing she wasn't going to get picked."

Zara – who is best known for having appeared on the 2018 series of the best-loved dating show – agreed: "Gemma knew as soon as they said there was going to be a dumping tonight, Gemma was so relaxed!"

"Dad has written in the contract that I will not be leaving until the end," Love Island fan Sam then laughed.

After Monday's episode saw the UK public forced to vote for their least favourite girl and boy before ending on a cliff-hanger, last night the contestants with the most votes were finally revealed.

As well as pharmaceutical salesman Ikenna, newbie Jay Younger and estate agent Andrew La Plage were amongst the lads having received the fewest votes, whilst nanny Amber, model Tasha Ghouri and actress Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu were the ranked the least favourite girl.

Despite the deciding vote seeing Amber and Ikenna say their goodbyes, with 19-year-old international dressage rider Gemma being kept 'safe' once again, sceptical fans are wondering whether a behind-the-scenes agreement may be in place to secure the footballer's daughter's progress on the show.

One viewer took to Twitter earlier this week to hit out, "Funny who Gemmas dad is and this season is turning out to be the Gemma show.. daddy clearly signed a contract", whilst another wrote, "How were Andrew and Tasha in the bottom tho with Gemma and Jacques safe?".

Another viewer seconded the statement, asking: "How is gemma safe this game is RIGGEDDD?".

A fourth wrote: "How Gemma’s monotone ass is not in the bottom 3 is beyond me (unless she has a contract with production to stay until the end, which I wouldn’t put past them slimy [clown emoji]. They lied about no food challenge, so what else are they lying about?".
