A YOUNG woman has described how she escaped a horror crash with her life – and her fake eye-lashes – intact.
Horrific crash pictures – taken by her boyfriend – will serve as a lasting reminder to Chloe Anderson that she is lucky to be alive.
Chloe was on her way home from a pampering treat, a present from boyfriend, Josh Holt, 22, when they were involved in a motorway smash last month.
Chloe was left with broken ribs, bruises and whiplash and had to be cut out of the car by firefighters. But her new false eyelashes, incredibly, survived the impact.
Chloe, 20, says: “After the crash, I was in an absolute state, I was in so much pain and I couldn’t feel my legs – and yet my eyelashes stayed in place. I couldn’t believe it when Josh showed me the photos.”
The couple met at high school in Manchester and have been dating ever since.
Chloe says: “We had our ups and downs as teenagers, but we stuck together. I have a heart condition and need a valve replacement, and Josh is very caring and supportive.”
In March this year, Chloe sadly suffered a 12-week miscarriage.
Chloe, who is training in hair and beauty, says: “It was really sad, but we got through it. It made us realise we would like to try again, in the future.”
Earlier this month, Josh booked an eyelash treatment for Chloe. But on their journey home, on the M60 around Manchester, they were involved in a crash.
Chloe says: “We were involved in a collision with the van in front. It happened so quickly. Josh threw his arm out across me, to protect me, but it was so scary.
“There was a big bang and a lot of smoke and then everything went very quiet and still. I could hear Josh’s voice, asking if I was alright, telling me that he loved me.
“He scrambled out of the car, round to the passenger side, and was trying to get me out of the car, but I was trapped.
"I couldn’t move at all, I couldn’t even feel my legs. I thought at first that I was paralysed; my body just went into shock.”
Firefighters used hydraulic gear and cutting tools to remove the roof and free Chloe.
She says: “Josh was brilliant. He kept talking to me. I needed the reassurance.
“The noise from the tools was horrific, and it took around 40 minutes to cut the roof off the car.”
Chloe was lifted backwards out of the car and into an ambulance, and then rushed to Salford Royal Hospital.
She says: “I have broken ribs and bruises and I am still in so much pain. I was in hospital for five days and I’m having daily physio.
"I’m still struggling now, I think it will take a long to time to recover.
“When I saw the photos of the car, they really made me realise how lucky I had been. We could both have been killed.
"Josh took photos of me in the ambulance, and my eyelashes were still perfect – even after the crash. It made me giggle.
“Josh has a big bruise across his chest and it has hit him hard emotionally.
“I want to thank the paramedics and firefighters too – they do a great job.
"We’ve had a very lucky escape and are appreciating this second chance.”
