CANDLES can brighten up any home and make a perfect gift for every occasion, but not all of them are vegan friendly.
There are two main ingredients vegans need to look out for when shopping for candles: animal fats and beeswax. To give you a helping hand, we've rounded up all the best vegan candles out there.
A lot of well-known brand use beeswax and stearic acid (a product of animal fat) in their candles.
Luckily, there are loads of firms that are now using alternatives like soy.
To make sure your candle is vegan-friendly check the ingredients on the label. If they are not listed assume it's not vegan.
You should also bear in mind that a lot of candles are made of paraffin wax.
Although paraffin is considered vegan and the best for giving a strong scent, many researchers claim that it releases toxic fumes (worth considering if you're after a completely natural product).
Here are the best vegan candles we found.

Are Yankee candles vegan?
Yankee candles have a wide range of scents that invoke memories and are made for many different occasions and seasons. While Yankee candles are suitable for vegans (as they do not contain any animal-derived ingredients and are not tested on animals) they are made from paraffin wax which comes from coal. While paraffin wax isn't the most eco-friendly of ingredients, it is still vegan and they have a great selection of candles to choose from.
Are glade candles vegan?
Glade does offer some vegan products but their products are not entirely cruelty-free. This means that they test some of their finished products or their ingredients on animals, or they may commission a third party to do so.
What are vegan candles made of?
Vegan candles are frequently made from soy, coconut, paraffin or rapeseed, with soy being the most common. Made from soybeans they are good for the environment and air too.
Many vegans will also be enticed with eco-friendly packaging, the most well know being made in 100% recyclable materials or tins or jars that can be reused for storage. Beeswax will already be known to many vegans as a big no-no and should be avoided if looking for an entirely vegan-friendly candle.
