At least one person doesn’t mind seeing Kim Kardashian in an iconic vintage dress.
In April, the Skims founder posed on Instagram in what appeared to be a perfect replica of the white backless gown made famous by Carmen Electra nearly 25 years ago.
And on Wednesday, the 50-year-old “Baywatch” beauty had nothing but kind things to say about Kardashian’s take on the sexy style.
“I love Kim — we worked together in the past — and I think she looked amazing in that dress,” Electra told Us Weekly.
“I wore that Stephen Sprouse dress to the MTV Movie Awards in 1998 and remember it being daring for the time. I think her fashion is always on point and I love that she is inspired by the ’90s.”
Electra also praised Kardashian’s look last month on Instagram, posting side-by-side photos of herself and the reality star in the dress and writing, ““I still have this dress … @kimkardashian remade this designer dress and I think it’s flattering not a completion [sic]! I think it’s cool 🤘🏼 shouting out love to the ladies always have !!!!!!!!”
In the comments, Kardashian praised Electra as “the most beautiful” and “forever the style icon.”
“It had a clear strap holding [it] on. It was a mystery as to how this dress stayed on. My boobs were kind of pouring out of the dress and I literally was on every ‘Worst Dressed’ list in that dress,” the Playboy fixture told Vogue in 2017 of her gravity-defying gown.
“But I was looking at it [recently] and I was like, ‘It’s so covered today.’ In the ’90s, it was really hard [if] you wanted to wear sexy clothes.”
Kardashian, of course, is no stranger to sultry styles — but her decision to wear Marilyn Monroe’s ’60s-era “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress at the 2022 Met Gala isn’t sitting well with everyone.
A number of Monroe experts were “outraged” to see the shapewear mogul wearing the “sacred” museum piece, and “Riverdale” actress Lili Reinhart (who’s been open about her struggles with body dysmorphia) said it was “disgusting” and “so f—ked” that Kardashian boasted about losing 16 pounds in just a few weeks to fit into the garment, which couldn’t be altered.
And Bob Mackie, the design legend who sketched the original Jean Louis design decades ago, said it was a “big mistake” for Kardashian to wear it on the carpet, adding, “It was done for [Monroe]. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”
