A new dad has revealed the very detailed instructions his wife left him detailing the exact foods his children need for dinner.

The man, believed to be from Long Island, New York, shared a picture to Reddit showing  his son and daughter’s plates each with pieces of paper to show what goes in each department.

He explained that his wife had recently returned from work after maternity leave and he was now in charge of feeding their kids.

He posted the photo, which included a tin of beans, canned sweetcorn and  two plates with multiple compartments.

‘My wife just went back to work and thinks I’m an idiot,’ the dad wrote in a post.

She explained that his wife is incredibly anxious about the separation

‘I’m doing everything I can to help her feel comfortable. I prepped the dinner exactly how she asked me to. But I still thought it was pretty funny,’ he wrote.

For his son, the dad was tasked with serving corn, four ‘dino’ nuggets with ketchup and honey mustard on the side and a choice between leftover rice or beans.

Meanwhile, their daughter needed meatballs – which he was told are located in the fridge – with corn and peas that needed to be ‘steamed in the green steamer’, and leftover rice ‘warmed up’.

Despite the clear instructions, the dad didn’t quite nail it

Many dads related to the task with one writing: ‘I can already hear it, “That’s not how Mommy does it.”….’

‘It went pretty smoothly but apparently I had the temperature wrong for some of the food,’ he said.

Another said: ‘Mom was probably trying to save dad from endless toddler tantrums from the ketchup being slightly to the left. Or the nuggets touching the corn. Toddlers are emotional terrorists’.

A third wrote: ‘That’s better than me since I am an actual idiot and can easily be bamboozled into feeding my daughter in ways that her mom would never approve of. My daughter has long since figured out that Dad is an easy mark’.

‘If she thought it was necessary to make this cheat sheet due to past observations, then maybe….’ joked another.

‘Don’t forget to take the papers out,’ added one.

‘In my family, she prevented a meltdown. Shows how much she loves you and the kids,’ said another.
