KING Charles handed out slices of birthday cake to well-wishers yesterday — many of them turning 75 just as he does today.
The beaming monarch cut into the heavily decorated three-tier Victoria sponge and joked: “It’s always fun to have a look.
"We need to give you doggy bags.”
He appears on the front cover of today’s Big Issue to launch his Coronation Food Project, ensuring food waste goes to hungry mouths.
Among the guests at yesterday’s bash at Charles’ Highgrove home in Gloucs were top chef Raymond Blanc and The Repair Shop presenter Jay Blades.
Blanc, 73, said of the King: “He is a crusader and I hope the Government will give him a little more room to express himself.”

The party was arranged by the King’s Foundation, which until last week was known as The Prince’s Foundation and for which Michelin-starred Blanc has been working on a programme to teach young people about food.
The get-together also saw a tribute to the Windrush generation who first arrived in Britain 75 years ago.
Charles will hold a Buckingham Palace reception today for NHS staff before a dinner with friends and family at Clarence House.
