Stasher bag review: Are the re-usable kitchenware products worth it?

STASHER is the food storage brand that offers up versatile bags that fit into your cupboard or your bag and are 'endlessly reusable'.

We got our hands on some of the bags to see if they're worth your money.

What are Stasher bags for?

Stasher bags are pretty versatile. They're available in a range of sizes and colours, and can be used to store food in your cupboards, fridge, freezer or your bag on the way to the office… if we're ever allowed back, that is.

There's standard sandwich bags, 'pockets' for smaller items, stand-up bags (which collapse flat when emptied which make good space-saving options for your meals on the go) and some larger options.

You can store liquids in them, but we wouldn't recommend using them to take your soup to work; if you give them a good squeeze when they're full of liquid, the seal will open and you'll end up with a bag full of chunky vegetable.

Stasher bags are good for food preparation. Not only can you freeze them, but you can heat them in your microwave or oven (up to 200C) without worrying they're going to break.

Stasher bags are also ideal tools for Sous Vide (cooking very slowly at low temperature to the uniniatiated) and won't contaminate any of your lovely meals.

During our time using them, we found ourselves mostly using the bags to store things in the fridge or freezer. The perk of using Stasher bags to freeze your food is that the flexible, expandable nature of the bags means there's no wasted space, which is handy when you've got limited storage. Stasher bags will neatly fit around the various boxes you've got in your fridge and your cupboards, helping you maximise your space.

Are Stasher bags good?

In a word: yes. We didn't have any issues with them in our testing as they were strong, durable and convenient.

It can be a bit of a faff getting the bags into your dishwasher in a way that allows water to circulate (we stretched them over the plate racks) and we ultimately found it easier to fill them with warm, soapy water, seal and give them a shake to quickly clean the bags.

We think they'd be great for dividing up portions from a batch cook in the freezer.

Are Stasher bags worth it?

We think Stasher bags are worth it. While there are cheaper re-usable cooking products around, you can buy a pair of small stasher storage bags for £14.99, which isn't earth-shatteringly expensive.

Plus they're built to last many years which the cheaper options might not be, so you should get your money's worth.

As an added bonus, Stasher is part of the 1% For the Planet scheme, which donates money to sustainability projects, so a portion of your money is going to a good cause.

Stasher bags review: The verdict

We like Stasher bags and we'll be finding uses for them around our home for years to come.

While it's a shame that it's not easier to recycle silicone products, the fact that it's super-long lasting should make up for that.

Whether you opt to use Stasher bags around the kitchen as we did, or as nifty storage solutions for other bits around the house, you won't be disappointed.
