BOLTON star Kyle Dempsey and his dad were left needing medical treatment after they were the victims of an "unprovoked assault" on a night out.

The midfielder, 26, had played in the Trotters' 3-1 defeat at former club Carlisle on Saturday afternoon.

Dempsey then hit the town with father Richard – a former rugby league star – in Maryport, Cumbria.

But the pair were on the receiving end of an "unprovoked assault" and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

A Bolton statement confirmed the shocking news.

It read: "Bolton Wanderers Football Club is aware of an incident which took place at the weekend.
