Hampton is DROPPED by England over behaviour and attitude problems

Lionesses star Hannah Hampton is DROPPED by England over behaviour and attitude problems – one day after the Aston Villa keeper turned up to game against Chelsea despite being omitted ‘in the best interests of the team’

  • The Aston Villa goalkeeper has been dropped by England boss Sarina Wiegman
  • It’s understood that Hampton has been removed due to attitude problems
  • The 21-year-old was left out of Villa’s squad for their game against Chelsea
  • Hampton still watched Aston Villa’s WSL clash with Chelsea from the stands
  • Carla Ward claimed Hampton’s exclusion was ‘in the best interests of the team’

England and Aston Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has been dropped from the national team because of her behaviour and attitude at the team’s camps.

The 21-year-old has not been selected by Lionesses’ boss Sarina Wiegman since their Euros triumph in the summer and looks unlikely to be reinstated back into the team.

The news comes shortly after Hampton turned up unannounced to Villa’s game with Chelsea after being left out the squad by manager Carla Ward.

Hannah Hampton – who was involved during Euro 2022 – has been dropped by England

Sarina Wiegman has reportedly omitted the Villa keeper due to behaviour and attitude issues

Sportsmail understands that Hampton has caused problems with her behaviour and attitude in England teams and at club level – which has resulted in her getting dropped.

Prior to World Cup qualifiers in September, Wiegman claimed Hampton’s absence from the national squad was due to ‘some personal issues that she has to solve so for her at this moment it’s better for her to stay at her club’.

However, her situation at Villa seems to have spiraled out of control recently after she turned up to their game unannounced – despite being left out the squad ‘in the best interests of the team’.

Hampton was available for the first time in four games having recovered from an injury but found herself omitted from the first-team squad at Kingsmeadow.

However, she was seen watching the game from the Chelsea home end and posted a picture of the match on her Instagram story with the caption ‘let’s go team #utv’.

Hampton’s attitude problems have resulted in her omission for both club and country

Hampton travelled to the game on her own and shared an Instagram story of her view of the action from the stands

After the game, Villa boss Ward confirmed: ‘Hannah was available. Something happened yesterday and we decided it was in the best interests of the team and the squad for her to stay at home so I did exactly that.

‘That’s all I really want to say on the matter. I made the decision in the best interests of the team to leave at her home and I’ve left her at home. I would probably prefer to talk about the 11 players that were here.’

Hampton was part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 but was second choice to Manchester United keeper Mary Earps. She failed to make an appearance.

She was also omitted for October’s friendlies against the Czech Republic and the USA and will not be included in the squad Wiegman names for games against against Japan and Norway in November.

The 21-year-old has made two appearances for the Lionesses’ first team in her career
