Jake Paul was advised NOT to fight Hasim Rahman Jr as boxer was 'too experienced', says YouTuber's coach | The Sun

JAKE PAUL was urged NOT to fight Hasim Rahman Jr due to his lack of experience.

The YouTuber turned boxer will lock horns with his one-time sparring partner at Madison Square Garden next month.

Rahman Jr – the son of former heavyweight champ Hasim Sr – will be the first professional boxer Paul has faced during his brief stint as pro.

And Rahman's extensive amateur career – in which he had over 100 amateur fights – was a cause of concern for the New York State Athletic Commission before they sanctioned the bout.

Paul's head coach, BJ Flores, told Boxing Scene: “The New York State athletic commission advised against it.

"They said Rahman was too experienced. Rahman had over 100 amateur fights and has 13 professional fights plus he’s used to fighting bigger guys.

"He grew up around boxing and boxing himself in amateur tournaments."

Rahman Jr, 31, suffered a fifth-round TKO defeat to James Morrison in his last outing in April.

But Flores insists Gold Blooded won't be a walk in the park for boxing novice Paul, who has only taken to the ring a mere six times.

He said: “Rahman was beating a 20-0 undefeated heavyweight in Kenzie Morrison 4 rounds to 0 before the stoppage.

Rahman Jr is relishing the opportunity to silence Paul and bring him back down to earth with a bang.

The 31-year-old said: “He’s gonna get seriously hurt, he’s gonna get seriously hurt in this fight.

"I’m gonna hurt this man and all the stuff he’s been saying is just fuel to the fire.

"He picked the wrong person and like I said, I’m gonna punish him on August 6th.
