JORGINHO revealed that he is embracing his new role under Frank Lampard this season and he now has the stats to prove it.
The 27-year-old was booed off at Stamford Bridge last season and derided as the symbol of former chief Maurizio Sarri’s unpopular style of football.
He was also seen as the lynchpin in the Italian manager's infamous ‘Sarri-ball’ system, and faced the flak for replacing fan favourite N'Golo Kante as the Blues anchor.
Jorginho now features as one of two central midfielders rather than three and had revealed his hopes for his new attacking edge to provide assists.
And he was finally credited with laying on a Premier League goal for Tammy Abraham's hat-trick strike in the 5-2 win against Wolves.
As well as adding assists to his game, Jorginho, who faced accusations of being a one-trick pony for his style of play, is also leading every other midfielder in the top-six for ball recoveries, and interceptions.
The Italy International has 44 recoveries, nine more than Manchester City's summer signing Rodri, and is 12 higher than his Chelsea partner Mateo Kovacic.
Jorginho is also second overall in the league, only three fewer than Oliver Norwood, who has excelled at winning the ball back for Sheffield United.
Despite coming under fire for struggling to help Manchester United maintain possession, Paul Pogba is third on the list for recoveries.
Jorginho meanwhile is also level for the most interceptions among his top-six rivals this campaign with Arsenal starlet Matteo Guendouzi both on 10.
Chelsea's next entry on the midfield list is Mason Mount down on 4, the same as Harry Winks, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva.
However, Jorginho does still have a way to go to catch Bournemouth's Phillip Billing, who is leading the league's interceptions on 15.
But Chelsea fans have been quick to praise their number five for his efforts this season, with one tweeting that "Jorginho is above the rest."
Another wrote: "Jorginho is the best DM in the Premier League, put some respect on his name!"
A third added: "Jorginho makes so much interceptions because of his ability to read the game. People don't understand how intelligent this guy is and it pains me."
