Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Haaland can leave Dortmund CONFIRMED, Cavani 'close to joining Barcelona as player-coach'

MARCUS RASHFORD is keen on a shock transfer to Barcelona, according to reports from Spain.

PSG are also said to be interested in the England star.

Rashford has 18 months left on his contract and has not yet been a regular for United this season.

But another United striker is said to be even closer to joining the Catalans, with Edinson Cavani reportedly close to becoming a player-coach at the Nou Camp.

Meanwhile, reports from Germany suggest Manchester United are the only serious bidder for Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

And indeed the German side are said to be keen for Haaland to move to Old Trafford if they are forced to sell.

Mason Greenwood could also be forced out as a result, with the England international already said to be "upset" that Cristiano Ronaldo is the first name on the teamsheet.

Manchester United ace Mason Greenwood has emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal.

That is according to Elnacional, who claim that the north Londoners, Juventus and Barcelona are keeping tabs on Greenwood.

    GOOD MORNING MAN UTD FANS

Newcastle want to make Anthony Martial their first big-name arrival next month.

And they are willing to pay a hefty loan fee of around £6million to tempt the Manchester United striker to St James’ Park.

Martial knows he must leave Old Trafford to get regular action, and Juventus had shown an interest in taking him for the rest of the season.

But the Toon hope to blow Juve out of the water by paying over £1m a month to get him for the remaining five months of the campaign.

Newcastle have money to burn after the takeover but know they will struggle to tempt any player into a permanent move while their Prem future hangs in the balance.

That leaves loan signings as their only serious chance of bringing in the sort of top-level talent they want when the window opens.

Meanwhile, Man Utd whiz Hannibal Mejbri suffered heartbreak in the Arab Cup final as Algeria were beaten 2-0 in extra time by Tunisia.

The exciting Red Devils playmaker, 18, had scooped TWO man-of-the-match awards leading up to Saturday’s showpiece event.

But Mejbri was unable to help Tunisia land the top prize as Algeria claimed victory in the inaugural competition thanks to late goals from Amir Sayoud and Yacine Brahimi.

    Ronaldo open to Madrid return?

Real Madrid are looking to bring Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Bernabeu, according to reports.

Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 games for Real during his nine-year spell at the club.

And according to Football Insider, Real could look to bring the 36-year-old back to Madrid just three-and-a-half years after he left for Juventus.

The report states that Ralf Rangnick’s arrival at United has potentially opened the door to a winter return to Spain.

There are still concerns over whether Ronaldo will suit Rangnick’s high-energy pressing game.

    Lingard alternative

West Ham have identified Tottenham ace Dele Alli as a potential alternative to Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.

That is according to Eurosport, who claim that the Hammers are still monitoring Lingard after his impressive loan spell last season.

However, manager David Moyes is also eyeing Alli in case the east Londoners fail to land the United forward.

The Spurs ace has failed to win over new manager Antonio Conte and now looks set to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Next up for Manchester United it’s a trip to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle on December 27.

The Red Devils will be well rested after their last two matches have been postponed – against Brentford and then Brighton.

Man Utd currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, five points behind fourth place Arsenal.

    De Jong to move on?

Barcelona could sell Frenkie de Jong next summer, according to reports.

The Catalan giants are still struggling financially and need to offload players if they are to make signings.

De Jong, 24, was previously considered untouchable but his decline in form means Barcelona may be more open to a sale, report Fichajes. And given the Dutchman is one of the highest earners in the squad, selling him would open up a large chunk of the wage bill.

Barca also believe they could sell De Jong for a considerable fee having arrived at the Nou Camp for £65million just two years ago.

And given there are a number of potential suitors, Barcelona could use that interest to drive up their asking price.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the midfielder who could serve as a replacement for Paul Pogba.

    Newcastle make contact with Lingard

Newcastle have made contact over a transfer move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, according to reports.

The Magpies are said to be ‘seriously interested’ in signing the attacking midfielder.

That is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who reports the two parties are yet to reach an agreement.

Instead, Romano suggests the race to sign Lingard is still open with other Premier League clubs linked with a move.

    Liverpool after Man Utd target

Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty is being given a chance to wow Liverpool’s talent spotters, according to reports.

The Prem giants have allowed the Canadian starlet to train with them with Manchester United among the sides thought to be keen on the winger.

The Liverpool Echo reports Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juventus have been eyeing the 17-year-old who currently plies his trade at MLS club Toronto.

And the youngster, who signed a first team deal with the club in 2020, received his first senior international call-up to Canada’s men’s team in January this year.

That move saw the then-16-year-old become the youngest ever player to be called into the side, beating the record set by Alphonso Davies by five days.

But the Bayern Munich left-back, 21, remains the only player to have earned a full Canada men’s cap at the age of 16.

    Lingard to remain at United?

Manchester United expect Jesse Lingard to see out his contract with the club despite interest from West Ham and Newcastle, according to reports.

The England international’s contract at Old Trafford is up next summer, meaning he can open pre-contract negotiations with clubs in the New Year.

The 29-year-old was reportedly considering a move away from Old Trafford in a bid to secure first-team football.

Both the Magpies and the Hammers, for whom Lingard flourished on loan last season, were said to be keen on landing the attacking midfielder in January.

The Toon recently emerged as favourites to land the England star and had even made contact with the Red Devils to seal the deal.

But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the two parties are yet to come to an agreement over Lingard and now Manchester Evening News claim that Lingard will be staying put at Old Trafford – at least until his contract expires in the summer.

    Gallagher to mirror Lingard mistakes?

Conor Gallagher’s career could be stifled if he returns to Chelsea – like Jesse Lingard’s has since heading back to Manchester United.

That’s according to Sam Allardyce, who has watched Gallagher go from strength to strength under Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace where he’s been on loan this season.

When asked about Gallagher’s potential Chelsea return, Allardyce said to talkSPORT: “Well I wouldn’t spend too long there if I don’t get into the first team.

“I’d want to come back and give it a go and I think on his form at the moment and you have to bear in mind now he made his England debut, he’s an England international.

“He would want to go back and try and get in the team but I think if you do that, you’ve got to play enough first team games because if you don’t you can easily fall backwards like Jesse Lingard.

“Staying at Man United I think has been a bad choice for him because he’s not been selected.”

    Fergie gave Ronaldo time off

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson once gave Cristiano Ronaldo time off to go home and visit his sick father.

Ronaldo said: “Probably he doesn’t remember, but I will say it because it’s a beautiful story.

“One day, my father was in hospital, and I was so emotional, very low. And I spoke with him and he said: ‘Cristiano, go there for two or three days.’

“We had difficult games and I was a key player in that moment.

He said: ‘It will be tough because we have difficult games, but I understand your situation and I’ll leave you [out] and you can go and see your father.’

“For me, these are the most important things – apart from winning Champions Leagues, to win the Premier League, to win cups and stuff. So I have to appreciate him, because what he said to me, he always did. I have to appreciate that.”

    More from McManaman on Bellingham

Speaking about Man Utd signing Bellingham, McManaman added: “I think United need a centre midfielder of that (Bellingham’s) ilk.

“Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata are coming to the end of their careers and Paul Pogba may leave.

“So if there’s one team that needs a player like Jude Bellingham, it’s Manchester United.”

  • Dylan Terry

    Man Utd should sign Bellingham

Manchester United need to bring in Jude Bellingham to have any chance of competing with the Premier League’s elite once again, according to former Liverpool man Steve McManaman.

McManaman said to Horseracing.net: “He (Bellingham) has got all the attributes to be a superstar.

“When you look through the teams and the sides that could buy him – Manchester United would need that type of player as a central midfielder. Manchester City, with Rodri, Ilkay Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, not so much.

“Liverpool have got Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho. Of course it would be a great signing, he’s a great player, but whether Liverpool need him now is another thing.

“City could accommodate him but they’ve got a plethora of great players in there and he mightn’t play.”

    GAME PASS

Sir Alex Ferguson warned Cristiano Ronaldo ‘you won’t play every game’ when signing the ace in 2003.

Fergie told the Inside View: “I always remember, that when we had the discussion [about Ronaldo signing], I think the thing I wanted to impress on his agent, in particular, [was that] he won’t play every game.

“But if he’s so good, I can’t stop him. You always play your best players.

“The opening game of the season, he was substitute. He came on and he was absolutely bloody fantastic! The crowd was magnificent, the crowd loved it.

“So here we had a situation: Do I play him the next game or do I put him back on the bench? That was a big problem, that, you know.”
