Reds announcer Thom Brennaman appears to use homophobic slur on hot mic

A Cincinnati Reds TV announcer was caught on a hot mic uttering a homophobic slur during a live broadcast Wednesday, according to video of the incident uploaded to social media.

“One of the f-g capitals of the world,” a man could be heard saying before introducing the Fox Sports broadcast between the Reds and Royals in Kansas City.

ESPN reported the voice belonged to longtime Reds announcer Thom Brennaman.

About five seconds later, the man believed to be the 56-year-old Brennaman began reciting the pregame script.

The Reds and Royals faced off as part of a doubleheader, and it marked Cincinnati’s first game back since an unidentified player tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

The Reds have not yet responded to a request for comment, and Brennaman was still calling the second game as of publication.
