A FOOTBALL fan was floored by an astonishing punch from a linesman after he confronted the official in an amateur match on Saturday.
The abusive supporter squared up to the assistant referee in the latter stages of Sport Club Bauru's 4-2 defeat to rivals Atletico Itumbiara in a cup competition in Brazil.
According to Brazilian newspaper O Popular, he had spent much of the game throwing objects and shouting at the linesman from the stands.
He then descended onto the pitch to make his feelings known up close and personal in the 82nd minute.
After jabbing the official in the chest and shouting in his face, he received a single blow to the jaw and hit the deck.
Fellow fans reacted furiously to seeing one of their own out cold on the floor.
Many ran onto the pitch as the situation escalated, one even attempting to land a series of punches and kicks on the linesman.
Players began to intervene and the official resorted to using his flag to defend himself.
The knocked out fan remained motionless throughout the clip – which quickly went viral with hundreds of thousands of views online.
He is since said to have left the stadium alone without serious injury.
Reports suggest it took 30 minutes for the referee to regain control of the situation and see out the final moments of the match.
And Samuel Rosa, president of the local refereeing association, told O Popular the unruly supporter had been cursing at the officials for most of the game and had "thrown glasses" at them.
He also stated that an official complaint to the police will be made.
