TAMMY ABRAHAM provided an assist for Chris Smalling as the former Premier League pair linked up.

As a corner came in, the former Chelsea striker pealed off his marked and headed goalwards.

Ex-Manchester United defender Smalling then flicked home with a header of himself to open the scoring against Spezia.

The striker, who signed from Chelsea in the summer, has scored ten goals in his 22 appearances this season.

Roma currently sit sixth in Serie A, 12 points ahead of league leaders Inter Milan, who thumped them 3-0.

Pressure is mounting on manager Jose Mourinho, who before the Spezia game

Roma lost their last match to Inter, and Mourinho pointed to the Italian champion's far superior team and Roma's 'absentees'.

He said: "Inter are better than us on a good day. Inter are objectively better than us.

"This became an extremely difficult match tonight because of absentees.

"They finished 29 points above us last season. We had three big chances, two of which came at 0-0."
