Anton du Beke joined Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas on the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel for the last two weeks of the BBC competition. Show bosses asked Anton to step in after Motsi Mabuse’s “urgent” trip to Germany meant she would miss the live shows while isolating. However, speaking on Loose Women, the Strictly pro revealed his wife Hannah Summers was so emotional at the news, she burst into tears.
Jane Moore remarked: “There’s been so many rumours and suggestions in the past that you might be a judge so it was really nice to see you get a go at it.
“But is right that when you rang your wife Hannah she burst into tears?”
Anton replied: “No, we were at home actually and I got the call to say, ‘Motsi’s had to go to Germany would you mind taking over for a couple of weeks?’
“I of course, I don’t think they’d finished the sentence, said, ‘Yes I’ll do it whatever it is I don’t mind, am I back in? I’ll do it.’”

“I told Hannah and she burst into tears, so lovely,” Anton continued.
“I think she was delighted to get me out of the house.”
Janet Street-Porter interjected: “You seem to be having a very strange effect on the judging panel.
“Craig has definitely become nice and been out-of-character.”
“I didn’t understand it,” Anton replied. “I didn’t recognise him. I had to look across and wonder who was there at the far end.
“I mean he was all nice and giving high marks. He gave more marks in one of those Couple’s Choice than he gave to me in three years with all the marks combined.
“We’re not even in the final yet and he gave an eight.
“He gave a nine! I’m sure he meant it as a six and put it upside down.”

Discussing his judging experience, he said: “I loved it. I really enjoyed it because you’re guaranteed to get through to next week which is one thing I liked about it a lot.
“The other part was that it was nice to describe and talk about what they’re doing and know what they’ve gone through to get to that point.
“So I know it from the professional’s perspective dancing on that floor in front of the judges and so to share my enthusiasm with what they’re doing.
“I thought they were tremendous and I picked two great weeks to judge because I felt everyone danced really well.”
Strictly was forced to miss out on heading to Blackpool but Anton praised the contestants for bringing the iconic location to Elstree Studios.
Anton said: “The group number that we started with on the show was such a great Blackpool-esque dance.
“Everyone loves Blackpool because everything is bigger and better and I think they brought that to the show and I just thought everyone performed so well.
“Jamie’s number epitomises the whole thing really it was ridiculous and brilliant all at the same time.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 7.15pm. Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm.
