Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) was recently diagnosed with motor neurone disease in Coronation Street, something that came after he was hit by Carla Connor’s (Alison King) Underworld van.
Initially, Paul thought his hand injury was as a result of the collision, but multiple tests later confirmed that he has MND, which will end up taking his life.
His whole world turned upside down, Paul distracted himself from his devastating reality by taking on dodgy jobs for Damon (Ciaran Griffiths) – and every single one of them could’ve landed Paul back in prison.
As Paul has tried to occupy his mind, he’s also tried to bring himself to tell his loved ones that he’s dying.
In upcoming episodes, his sister’s extravagant and wonderful wedding puts things into perspective for Paul, as he realises the importance of making the most of your life.
‘It’s something [the wedding] Gemma’s been looking forward to – and Paul and all the family – for so long’, Peter Ash told us recently.
‘He just doesn’t want to put that worry and stress on what should be the happiest day of Gemma’s life. It’s just one of those situations where it’s not the right time and he can’t do it yet. They’ve got so much to worry about anyway, with bills and the quads and the wedding, he doesn’t want to add to that yet.
‘It should be Gemma’s happiest day. There shouldn’t be any clouds of doom and despair hanging over it.’
One person who does know by this point is Paul’s boyfriend, Billy (Daniel Brocklebank).
‘It is a massive relief for him for Billy to know, even though he didn’t want Billy to know yet’, Peter added.
‘He didn’t know how Billy would take it, and the heartbreak it would cause for the people he loves. Paul is definitely willing to accept that now but there will be a part of him as well that doesn’t want to put Billy through that. He is going to end up having to say goodbye to Paul within the next few years.
‘There’ll be a part of Paul that does want to spare him from that, but obviously he loves the guy as well.’
