As the competition heats up ahead of week eight of Strictly Come Dancing, the bar is being raised for the contestants to pull out all the stops in their routines. Unfortunately for BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, the public seem to think he’ll be the next dancefloor victim, and betting company Ladbrokes has listed him as having received the most elimination bets this week, with over 50 percent of punters predicting the broadcaster will leave the show this weekend.

Journalist Dan, 44, has updated audiences on the latest news and sports on BBC Breakfast since 2016 and earned the star a huge fanbase.

But the odds don’t seem to be in his favour on Strictly Come Dancing this week, especially since last week’s show saw him placed second from bottom on the leaderboard.

Despite this, he and professional partner Nadiya Bychkova were voted straight through to week eight without having to face the dreaded dance-off.

Ladbrokes has slashed odds for the former Football Focus presenter to make his exit during this week’s show, though.

The bookies have revealed that a staggering 89 percent of all bets placed on this week’s elimination have been in favour of either Dan or Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies.

Furthermore, it’s Dan who tops the unpopularity charts – with 50.2 percent of all bets up to this point being on the journalist to lose his place in the competition, while 38.8 percent of bets this week have been on Sara.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It feels very much like Groundhog Day for Dan Walker, who is once again the most popular pick with punters to be sent packing from Strictly this weekend.

“In fact, over half of the bets we’ve taken on the elimination market this week have been in favour of the TV presenter.”

Sara’s odds of leaving a slightly higher than Dan’s, as she currently stands at 6/4 to being eliminated.

At 7/4, Dan isn’t far behind, and Tilly Ramsay takes the third position with 4/1.

On the other side of the spectrum, EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis is tipped as the least likely to be voted off this week, with odds of 100/1.

TV presenter AJ Odudu’s odds stand at 66/1, and she and partner Kai Widdrington remain a favourite.

Entrepreneur Sara, 37, scored 33 points when she performed a Quickstep with partner Aljaž Škorjanec last week.

The scoring placed her fifth out of nine on the leaderboard, and during her time on the show, Sara has been placing at both the top and bottom of the list.

The couple sat behind AJ and Kai, who received 39 points; Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden with 38 points; John Whaite and Johannes Radebe with 35 points and Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu at 34 points.

Dan received some negative feedback from the judges following his Couple’s Choice last week.

Craig Revel Horwood commented: “It was all a bit vanilla and saccharine for me, I’m afraid.

“It was a sweet street dance – is that a thing? It could have been, but it wasn’t.

“And it was disappointing. You need to, when you are doing the round de jambe, darling, you have got to bend your knees and really sweep the floor.”

A further blow was presented for the couple as they revealed this week that Dan had been injured in rehearsals, so they haven’t been able to practice as much as they’d like.

Could Dan and Nadiya be the next to be eliminated?

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.40pm on BBC One.
