Priya Sharma (played Fiona Wade) has been struggling to cope after getting trapped in a burning maize maze during survival week. In upcoming scenes, the Emmerdale businesswoman’s eating disorder is set to resurface after she comes face to face with her burns scars for the first time. As Priya’s anxieties heighten in the comings weeks, she accidentally leaves her daughter Amba (Ava Jayasinghe) alone at a Christmas market. Could this mistake lead Priya to lose custody of Amba?
In scenes yet to air on the ITV soap, Priya becomes desperate to stop visiting the hospital for appointments about how her back scars are healing.
So she lies to doctors that her skin grafts are feeling much better in a bid to stop going to the hospital for checkups.
The Emmerdale resident is secretly horrified to hear that her struggles with eating are slowing down the healing process.
Priya decides to keep this to herself and avoids telling her doctor the truth about why her burns aren’t healing.
The next day, anxious about being in social situations, Priya makes an excuse to get out of attending a carol concert with Amba.
She later regrets letting her daughter down and makes her way to the village hall in order to catch the rest of Amba’s concert.
But when Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) is called away to act as an emergency Santa, Priya begins to feel overwhelmed.
With her panic rising, Priya stumbles away from the crowd, leaving Amba behind.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and other publications about Priya leaving her daughter alone in the village, Fiona Wade, who plays the character, explained: “Up until now she’s hidden away and all of a sudden a carol concert comes up which is all too much for her but it’s her daughter Amba who wants her to be there.
“She’s desperate to be the Priya that Amba sees and she thinks, ‘ok I’ll go’.
“In her head, everything she fears comes true and it’s a carol concert but also a Christmas market and there is food everywhere and it’s all too much for her.”
However, Fiona explained Priya believes her daughter Amba is safe in the care of her granddad as she leaves the market to get away from the crowds and the food.
Fiona said: “In her mind, she thinks Amba has gone off with her granddad but Priya is in her own hell.
“And it’s only when Amba is taken to her door later on that Priya realises [she’s left her daughter].
“It’s just another layer of an awful feeling that she already feels about herself.”
The 42-year-old added: “She already feels her life is not worth it and now she can’t look after her daughter I think she feels completely on the edge now of not coping.”
“She’s so desperate to not feel this way,” Fiona explained.
With Priya’s health spiralling out of control, will she end up losing custody of Amba?
Will a friend or relative take Amba into their care while Priya seeks the medical help she needs for her eating disorder?
Emmerdale continues weeknights on ITV at 7pm.
