GBBOs Amanda eliminated in pastry week after disappointing showstopper

Great British Bake Off has reached week six and sadly baking hopeful Amanda has been eliminated from the famous white tent.

While the London-based detective tried with all her might to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, unfortunately it came down to the overall skill after a disappointing showstopper.

Upon hearing Noel Fielding, who was mysteriously absent from half of last week's show due to a mystery "illness", deliver the news, all the rest of the contestants rallied around their friend in shock, with fellow baker George in particular stunned by the news.

"You’ve gotta go some time haven’t you," Amanda shrugged in a post-show interview.

"I didn’t think I’d get that far after seeing all the bakers," she continued.

"I’ve had such a good time."

As she shared hugs with all her fellow stars, Amanda assured them: "You’ll be alright guys I’ll see you in a few weeks."

Amanda then admitted while she'd had a bit of a stressful time on the show, and a rollercoaster, she's also loved the experience.

"I came here to have a good time," she went on. "It’s stressful being here but it’s a kind of fun stress.

"Perhaps if I didn’t talk so much I might have gone a bit further but I enjoyed it so I’m glad I did what I did," the eliminated contestant added.

George, who was a whisker away from being the next to leave, then revealed he couldn't believe the result.

"I’m in utter shock," he declared. "My name was going over and over in my head.

"I was preparing myself and I was just saying George George George and then they called Amanda. I could not believe it.

"This has given me a big push to fight for my place," the contestant insisted, excited to have another chance to prove Paul Hollywood wrong when he tasted his pastry showstopper.

Paul tore down the dish and said it was a "shame" George hadn't delivered the goods, so he could be on shaky ground next week.

This week, judge Paul gave out his famous Hollywood Handshake to Chrystelle after she delivered a bold and unusual curry pie.

"I don’t often give out handshakes in showstoppers but Chrystelle deserved it," Paul said. "It was perfection in my eyes."
