Eamonn Holmes stepped in for Alison Hammond on Monday’s This Morning as he presented the show with Rochelle Humes. The pair invited Matthew Wright and Julia Hartley-Brewer onto the show to discuss the morning’s headlines including the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan. However, Holmes furiously hit out at Joe Biden over reports the Taliban have gained access to weapons left behind by the US.

“Can somebody please tell me how the Yanks left behind £62billion worth of armoury?” Holmes questioned.

“The whole story is one of complete bafflement,” Wright replied. “I’ve spoken to military personnel, I’ve spoken to politicians, people on the right, those on the left, no one can explain how we ended up in this situation.

“Trump and Biden created a timetable that was impossible and the Taliban gave no leeway.

“We left the Taliban in a better position than they’ve ever been.”

“The idea is you blow up this stuff, you burn it, you do not leave it to the enemy,” Holmes added.
