Inside Jamie Redknapp and Frida Andersson’s whirlwind romance as 'inseparable' couple who share 6 kids marry in secret

IT was a very happy occasion for Jamie Redknapp yesterday as he married his heavily pregnant girlfriend Frida Andersson after a whirlwind 20 months.

The couple – who are so private they didn't even announce they were engaged – wed in an intimate ceremony at Chelsea Registry office in London, weeks before their first child is due.

The 48-year-old former England footballer and 37-year-old Swedish model – who have six children between them from previous marriages – have been “inseparable” since they were introduced by mutual friends in the summer of 2019.

And it’s said Jamie was drawn to the fact mum-of-four Frida is a parent, like him.

But, while they’re clearly very happy together, one person who’s likely to not be is Jamie’s ex-wife Louise Redknapp, 46.

The former Strictly star was “knocked sideways” when she found out "through family" earlier this year that Jamie’s expecting a child with Frida, and she’s been very public about her regrets for walking away from their 19-year marriage in 2017.

Here we take a closer look at Jamie and Frida’s whirlwind romance.

Lots in common

Jamie and Frida – who has lived in London ever since her modelling career took off – went public with their relationship in August 2020, after meeting through mutual friends a year before.

As the father of sons Charles, 17, and Beau, 12, whom he shares with Louise, the former footballer was drawn to Frida due to the fact she’s also mum to four sons from her previous marriage to American hedge-fund manager Jonathan Lourie.

At the time, a source said: “Jamie feels ready to move on from his marriage to Louise and is happy to be doing it with someone who also has kids and is financially secure.

“It’s early days for Jamie and Frida, but they have grown close and are really enjoying spending time together when they can.

“Anyone who knows Jamie knows that his sons are his main priority and mean everything to him, so he likes that Frida’s a parent.

“She’s also a homebody and into fitness, like he is.”

‘Virtually inseparable’

Less than a year later, in May of this year, it was revealed that the couple expecting their first child together – meaning their shared brood is set to become seven.

A source told The Sun at the time: “Jamie and Frida are absolutely delighted. They've been virtually inseparable in lockdown, and their relationship has gone from strength to strength.

“Jamie's been telling pals he's really excited to be a dad again — less excited about the sleepless nights, and nappy-changing.”

And Jamie’s dad Harry Redknapp has also spoken of his delight.

He said: “Jamie is very happy and Frida is happy. This will be grandchild number eight.

“We've got our hands full!”

Romantic babymoon

While Jamie and Louise attended many celebrity bashes together and were constantly papped throughout their marriage, Jamie and Frida’s relationship seems much more under the radar.

Having met less than two years after Jamie and Louise finalised their divorce, that may be the reason for not wanting to go public.

The first time Jamie shared any snaps of them together on social media was in August this year, when they took a romantic babymoon to Santorini.

Making the most of their final baby-free weeks, he shared a few pictures of the pair enjoying a beach day.

And when the Sky Sports presenter posted a picture of himself all dressed up in a suit for the GQ Awards a few weeks later, Frida gushed: "So handsome," with two heart emojis.

The ex factor

Jamie was with ex Louise for 21 years, and the singer has confessed she felt suicidal when their marriage broke down in 2017.

She admitted: “I would be standing in central London, watching the buses whizz past and I would wonder whether it would be easier for a bus to take me out.

“All it would take was for me to step out at the wrong moment and it would all be over.”

Asked if taking her own life was a genuine possibility, she replied: “I think so, for a split second. I was like, ‘I would really like this all to go away.’”

And she also admitted she regrets ever taking part in the 2016 series of Strictly Come Dancing as she believes it led to the end of their marriage.

In her book, You’ve Got This, she wrote: “If I'd done the show four years earlier, this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't have walked away from my marriage.”

Louise, who was partnered with Kevin Clifton, said that taking part in the BBC show “simply wasn't worth putting anyone I loved or love through the heartache”.

Meanwhile, Frida was previously married to Jonathan Lourie, who worked at Morgan Stanley, overseeing their convertible bond management practice, and co-founded asset management firm Cheyne Capital, one of the largest hedge funds in Europe.

Jonathan appeared on the Sunday Times Rich List in 2013, estimated to be worth £80million.

It is not known how long they were married, but Frida was last pictured with Jonathan in 2013 and started dating Jamie in August 2020.

‘Tough but fair’ co-parenting

Jamie has praised his ex-wife for doing a “great job” with co-parenting their two sons.

He said they still ensure they're “pulling the right way” when it comes to looking after their sons Charles and Beau.

Speaking to HELLO! , Jamie said: “I'm very fortunate I've got two great boys. When you co-parent, it's something you have to do together and make sure you're both pulling the right way.

“Louise does a great job with the boys. We do the best we can and try to be tough but fair.”

Jamie has joked he would often use the fact he was playing football as a great excuse to avoid night feeds when his eldest two children were little.

Now he's retired from the game he'll have no excuse to be more hands-on with the new baby.

Speaking to his pals Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas, he agreed the secret to parenting is “winging it”.

He added: “We had a lovely excuse when we were playing [football]… didn't really work when I was off injured though.”
