Jodie Whittaker is rumoured to be leaving the TARDIS after her third series in Doctor Who after becoming the first female Time Lord. Fans of the iconic BBC series are desperate to know who’ll replace her and several names have been thrown into the mix including an actor who shares a connection with Jodie and former Doctor Who star David Tennant – Friday Night Dinner’s Tom Rosenthal.
Discussing the potential replacements for Jodie, one fan compared the Plebs actor to Tom Baker’s iconic stint.
On a Reddit forum, one fan posted: “I have a feeling that 14th Doctor will turn out to be Tom Rosenthal because he has appeared in Broadchurch with David [Tennant] and Jodie.
“He’s a good comedian in real life [and] I noticed his name has been mentioned often.
“I think it makes sense that he will reveal to be the new Doctor. I could see his Doctor’s being parallel to Tom Baker’s Doctor (sic).”

Bookmaker’s Betfair has priced up odds for the next Time Lord and this isn’t the first time Tom’s name has been thrown in the ring.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Whoever replaces Jodie Whittaker will have a tough act to follow – the Huddersfield actress having won the hearts of Whovians across the world.”
The bookmakers have priced Tom at 10/1 to be the next actor going on adventures in the TARDIS.
Former Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall is the favourite contender at 3/1.
While Shameless actress Maxine Peake and Game of Throne’s Natalie Dormer are both tipped to replace Jodie at 8/1.
In 2017, Tom took to Twitter to address the rumours he was set to replace Peter Capaldi before Jodie’s tenure was announced.
He joked: “For those asking if I’m the next Doctor Who unfortunately I have to keep it under wraps for my friends’ Betfair accounts.”
One eager fan replied: “Oh you WOULD BE SO AWESOME as the Doctor.”

Someone else added: “Omg I would be so happy if this was true. Come on Tom!!”
“I love Friday Night Dinner, I could get behind this,” a third fan shared.
Meanwhile, Pearl Mackie’s Bill Potts – the Twelfth Doctor’s companion – could be returning to the BBC show.
Pearl starred alongside Peter Capaldi but could accompany a different Doctor this time.
In a recent interview, she said: “It’s definitely not something I’ve ruled out.
“It was a couple of years ago I was on Doctor Who but I do still feel really close to Bill and I do feel like she’s still very much part of me.
“And I feel like I’d sort of have to miss her before going back to her again, or if there was an amazing story that was written about her and her experiences and meeting another Doctor
“But it’s such a great show and I would be crazy to say no,” she told RadioTimes.com.
Doctor Who returns to BBC One later in the year.
