BBC Breakfast presenters Louise Minchin and Dan Walker were left in stitches when their interview with British actor Stephen Graham was interrupted by his wife.

Louise had earlier made the shock announcement that she would be leaving the morning show after 20 years on our screens.

Stephen started the interview by praising the 52-year-old and it turned out he wasn’t the only one in his household who wanted to put in a good word.

“Steve, I’m interested that you keep looking up when you mention your wife – she’s not watching you from the ceiling is she?” Dan asked. “Is she in the room above you?”

A muffled voice coming from upstairs, his wife Hannah Walters, could then be heard as the actor joked: “She’s like this entity that’s around me.”

Hannah then clearly said: “Louise, you look lovely in yellow.”

By this point, the BBC Breakfast studio was in hysterics at the guest appearance.

“I’ve said it now love, thank you,” Stephen said.

As the interview came to a close, Louise and Dan said goodbye to Hannah.

And, once again, a voice was heard in the background saying “goodbye”.

Before his wife joined, Stephen paid his own tribute to Louise following her announcement.

“Louise I’m devastated you’re leaving by the way,” he said.

“You’ve been a stalwart for the last 20 years so it has been lovely making up from you in the morning and receiving the news from you.

Louise managed to fight back the tears for the rest of the show, which also saw Dan, weather presenter Carol Kirkwood and sports reporter Sally Nugent pay tribute.

Dan praised his co-host’s reporting on the Manchester Arena terror attacks, saying that was when he realised just how good a presenter she was.
