Mel B was left in shock on Monday's Good Morning Britain as host Adil Ray announced to the nation that she has a new, secret boyfriend.

The 45-year-old appeared on the hit ITV breakfast show to discuss a harrowing new video she stars in that depicts an abusive relationship.

The Spice Girls singer opened up to Adil, 47, and Susanna Reid, 50, on why it was so important to her to spread the message.

But as the conversation took a light-hearted turn at the end of the interview, Mel was surprised when Adil mentioned her new partner live on air.

Adil remarked: "You've got a new man in your life, which is great news!"

Scary Spice Mel responded: "Oh my God, where did that come from? Woah!," as Adil continued: "Maybe you told our researcher when you spoke to them."

Mel hit back: "I didn't! I think maybe they've read something in The Guardian today. Where are you?"

She went on to say: "I've learnt, I've learnt to keep my private life private and I think, for me, that's the best thing for me.

"But yeah, I'm with somebody who's very kind, very honest, very loving and that's what I need. I need somebody who understands me."

Adil then joked: "Is there a ring on the finger?," with Mel exclaiming: "No! I've got my nails done though."

Discussing how she rebuilt her trust in men in an interview with The Guardian, she said: "For a good year and a half I couldn’t even bear for somebody to stand near me or be hugged.

"Apart from hugging my kids and my family, anything else would make me feel traumatised.

"I was like, well, if I don’t touch anybody and don’t let anybody come near me, I’ll be OK. You can’t live like that.

"But the trust issue is always going to be there. It takes someone who is going to understand and be compassionate and take everything super-super-slow."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
