Eric Christian Olsen recently took to Instagram with an exciting exclusive look at some unaired moments from NCIS: Los Angeles’ 12th season. With the popular NCIS spin-off coming back to CBS very soon, some surprising details have come to light about the departure of Intelligence Analyst Nell Jones (played by Renée Felice Smith).
Nell Jones expresses her concerns about taking over as Operations Manager in a heartfelt deleted scene from NCIS: LA’s latest outing.
The Analyst took over from Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) and assumed the position as the head of the NCIS’s west coast branch during her departure.
Thankfully, Hetty eventually returned and relieved Nell from the stress of running the whole team.
Their heartfelt reunion eventually led to the acting OM’s departure from the squad as her boyfriend Eric Beale (Barrett Foa) took on an exciting new business opportunity.
However, an unearthed deleted scene from the latest season could have alleviated a number of fans’ suspicions of Nell’s eventual exit.
After taking on the demanding new role, Nell opened up to Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) with a long list of concerns.
In the 14th episode of season 12, ‘The Noble Maidens’, Admiral Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) offers Hetty’s job to Nell as a permanent position.
With the clock ticking to make a final decision, the analyst admitted to Kensi she wasn’t sure if she was ready to take on the responsibility that came with the role.

She tells the agent: “I’m starting to wonder why I picked up the phone when Hetty called.”
Nell then admitted she felt guilty for thinking such things, as she would hate to ever turn her back on the team.
Even so, she was still tempted to drop the NCIS altogether in favour of a mundane office job.
The cut extended scene then revealed Kensi’s surprise revelation that she had had similar thoughts.

“You know what I’ve always dreamed of?” she asked Nell.
“Being a trail guide. Because you’re outdoors all the time, you’re riding horses, no cell service.”
Nell then joked the pair could run off to ‘be cowgirls together” as a wholesome alternative to taking on the country’s most dangerous threats.
Kensi demonstrated she had given her fantasies a lot of thought as she named their imaginary new home the ‘Wild Chick Ranch’.
Hetty’s stand-in clearly took Kensi’s daydream a little more seriously, as she admitted “wait, seriously, I think I love this”.
Unfortunately, Kensi’s look said it all and one of the show’s most enduring agents will indeed be back for season 13.
Still, Nell finally got her wish as she bid a tearful farewell to the NCIS; although there’s still a chance she and Eric could eventually come back for special appearances here and there.
NCIS: Los Angeles season 13 will premiere on Sunday, October 10 on CBS.
