Outlander boss drops season 8 bombshell as final series delayed

Outlander: Season 7 part 2 teaser for STARZ drama

Outlander executive producer Matthew B. Roberts is getting real about the final season of the Starz hit time-traveling drama.

While discussing the sixth episode of season seven on the official Outlander podcast, the executive producer revealed the team behind the hit series didn’t think that they would even get a season eight.

So when they found out that they would get another season it made them “rethink everything.”

While he would not reveal any spoilers, he did say they have a “good plan” going forward.

As far as the end of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) story goes, the team behind Outlander will “do things right” and end the series “on a high.”

He also admitted they want to be “fair” to their diehard fanbase.

“We don’t want to wedge an ending in there,” he said.

That would “not be fair to anybody,” and won’t be “what we do.”

Fans are still reeling from the end of the first half of season seven which saw Jamie and Claire return to Scotland.

In another episode of the podcast, Roberts admitted the conclusion was deliberately positive.

“The one thing that was mandatory when we were breaking the first half is we have to end on an upbeat,” he explained.

Of course, this is Outlander, so things will not always be so rosy.

“We all know what happens to these two people. They are good people and bad things happen to good people,” Roberts teased.

While things may not be completely positive for Jamie and Claire, Roberts does promise the final season will be “fantastic.”

The second half of season seven will reportedly premiere sometime in 2024, leaving plenty of time to plan for season eight which has been delayed by the writers’ strike in Hollywood.
