Outlander fans have been reading Diana Gabaldon’s books since the 1990s, dissecting every little detail. So when Outlander was turned into a Starz drama in 2014, those who loved the book series started to do the same with the TV series. Many readers will remember one particular raunchy moment in the fourth book Drums of Autumn.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Outlander.

Outlander is a romantic period drama about Claire (played by Caitriona) who travels back in time to the 18th Century to be with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

There have been various challenges that come with coming from completely different worlds but their connection has only grown throughout the years.

Fans of the book series would have read Gabaldon’s Drums of Autumn which featured a sex scene with the couple which involved a river.

This saucy scene was brought to life for the small screen back in season four but in reality, it was nowhere near as romantic.

Balfe and Heughan were shooting the moment next to a river in Scotland in November.

Due to the freezing weather conditions, the actors were fully clothed but upon reviewing the scene, the producers decided they needed to do it again.

“There is a nookie scene where, when we were shooting it, it [was] so freaking cold”, Heughan explained to TV Line.

Balfe continued: “We actually reshot, because there’s a scene in Episode One that we shot in November, when it was freezing cold.

“We were fully clothed, and we tried to make it as sexy as possible — and I think they decided it wasn’t sexy enough.”

This scene which featured in the premiere was instead filmed at the end of the season when the temperature was slightly warmer in Scotland.

But that didn’t mean Balfe and Heughan didn’t still struggle with shooting the supposedly romantic moment.

Balfe added: “But it’s still nighttime, and we were doing it at 3am.

“So you can do something a little bit more nude at that time, but you’re always dealing with the elements.”

Outlander has been away from our screens for far longer than usual.

The Starz drama released season five in May 2020 and sadly, no more new episodes have been seen since.

Fans started to call this period “Droughtlander” but on Outlander Day earlier this year, the creators revealed series six was on its way.

Filming began in January 2021, was wrapped up in May and series six is now slated for early 2022.

There will be more to come even after the sixth series begins as Starz has already renewed Outlander for season seven.

According to Deadline, production on the series will begin soon so fans can expect it to start in early 2023.

As Gabaldon has written a total of 13 books in the Outlander series, there is a chance viewers will be watching Jamie and Claire’s lives unfold for several years.

Outlander season 6 is expected to premiere in early 2022.
