Ozark has left everyone guessing from the very beginning and continued to stun fans with the last few moments of the series three finale. Unfortunately, the Netflix drama will be coming to an end as the streaming service has already confirmed season four is going to be its last. However, this doesn’t mean the story is necessarily over entirely with the potential of spin-offs going through the rumour mill.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Ozark.

Will there be an Ozark spin-off series about Ruth Langmore?

Ruth Langmore (played by Julia Garner) had been an integral part of the Byrdes’ operation.

But after a falling out, Ruth decided she needed to go elsewhere and so swapped sides to work for the Snells.

By the end of season three, she is now part of the Snell heroin operation and despite her leaving the Byrdes in the lurch, she remains a firm fan-favourite and has done since Ozark debuted in 2017.

Now the Netflix drama is coming to an end, thoughts have turned to whether or not there could be a spin-off in store.

From the sounds of it, plenty of series four is going to revolve around Ruth and her growth.

Speaking to IndieWire, actress Garner said: “Ruth has a really good intuition and Marty and the Byrdes kind of took over that and she stopped listening to [herself.

“[In] Season 3, she made the mistake again [of] not listening to her gut, going with the Byrdes, doing all this stuff for the Byrdes, and [now] she’s done with it.

“In Season 4, she wants that independence back that she had before the Byrdes came in.

“She thought she was going to be stronger with the Byrdes, but in reality, that wasn’t the case. She’s realizing that, and that’s what season 4 is going to be.”

Echoing this idea of Ruth’s importance in Ozark’s fourth and final season, creator Chris Mundy told Entertainment Weekly: “I think it will be about whether or not Ruth really can create something of her own that she wants and is sustainable, or if she wants something else.”

So could it be that series four will act as arc, leading to a potential spin-off starring Garner?

As of yet, Netflix hasn’t confirmed if there will be any Ozark spin-off shows in the making.

But if there was to be one about Ruth, some fans have already voiced their opinions on the matter.

Taking to Twitter, one fan posted: “I wouldn’t be mad about an Ozark spinoff staring Ruth Langmore.”

Another said: “Ruth needs her own spin-off if things work out for her in the end.”

While a third excitingly agreed: “Give Ruth Langmore a spin-off!”

So there could be a demand for a Ruth Langmore show but this will of course depend on how series four comes to an end.

Filming for series four began in November 2020 after the pandemic caused a major delay in production.

Now, it is predicted that the first half of season four will be out in late 2021 and the second in 2022.

Following the series three finale, the Byrdes have grown closer to cartel boss Omar Navarro (Felix Solis).

But with Ruth having just switched sides, could this now mean that her life is in danger as she goes against the cartel?

Ozark is available to watch on Netflix.
