Piers Morgan jokes about returning to GMB after admitting he regrets storm-off

Piers Morgan has once again joked about returning to Good Morning Britain.

He left the flagship ITV show in March following a row over his remarks about Meghan Markle.

The star said he "didn't believe a word" the Duchess had told Oprah Winfrey about her mental health in an interview.

ITV soon announced the decision after Ofcom said it was investigating his comments after receiving 41,000 complaints.

Since his exit, he has teased a return a number of times.

Now he has responded to TV critic Ian Hyland, who posted a sarcastic tweet after Good Morning Britain viewing figures dipped.

The writer posted: “Dear Piers, Sorry for throwing you under that bus. Anyway, now that you’ve recharged your batteries will you please come back to Good Morning Britain? We really need you. First week of September is good for us. Lots of love, ITV. PS. You can pick the team.”

Piers quote retweeted the comical message and said: "I'll be lying on a beach in September – can we push this to October?"

It's not the first time he has joked about a comeback.

Piers said he's answering the "nation's prayers" by returning to GMB last month.

In the April Fools gag, he teased: "UPDATE: Following the Archbishop of Canterbury's confirmation that Meghan Markle was talking a load of old flannel in her Oprah interview, ITV just offered me my GMB job back and I've decided to accept.

"The nation's prayers have been answered. See you Monday!"

Fans responded to his latest tweet and urged him to make it happen.

"I would love Piers to go back to Good Morning I don’t watch it anymore," one wrote.

Another posted: "Since Piers left I’ve hardly watched it. If we can’t have him back I’d like to see Kay Burley get the gig. Is this possible?"

Recently, Piers admitted he regretted storming off GMB after a heated discussion with Alex Beresford.

He explained pals Gary Lineker scolded him over the spur-of-the-moment decision at a lunch after the dust had settled.

However he still stands by his words about Meghan.
