Four-episode event series will debut in 2020
The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” franchise is expanding even further, with VH1 adding a new four-episode celebrity edition next year.
“RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race” will feature 12 “sickening celebrities as they sashay into the ‘werk’ room to compete for the first-ever title of America’s Next Celebrity Drag Superstar.” Each episode will see three contestants undergo a drag transformation with the help of some franchise veterans.
None of the celebrity cast has been announced, but “Drag Race” alums set to appear include Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.
The new series is set to premiere in 2020, joining a franchise that includes the flagship “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” the behind-the-scenes companion show “Untucked,” the “All-Stars” version featuring returning contestants, multiple international editions, one-off specials and a host of associated digital series.
“Doing drag does not change who you are, it reveals who you are,” host and executive producer RuPaul Charles said in a statement. “I can’t wait for the world to see what happens when our celebrity contestants get all up in drags!”
Like the flagship series, “RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race” will be produced by World of Wonder Productions with Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, Steven Corfe, Mandy Salangsang, San Heng and Charles serving as executive producers. Tim Palazzola executive produces for VH1, and Jen Passovoy serves as producer.
