Stacey Solomon quits social media on Zoella's Digital Detox Day alongside Sam Smith, Jade Thirlwall and countless stars

CELEBRITY Instagram accounts went quiet today as hundreds of stars joined in with Zoella's Digital Detox Day.

Among the big names saying they were quitting social media were Loose Women's Stacey Solomon, Rita Ora and Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall.

The 30-year-old YouTuber organised the day, urging her followers to spend their Saturday away from Instagram, Twitter and the like.

Some followers have backed the cause by drawing a circle on their hands with the word 'off' in the middle and posting them online.

Using Zoella's real name, Stacey, 30, told followers: "Zoe Sugg has organised a social media free weekend this weekend to encourage people to switch off.

"She did some research and found that lots of us really struggle to switch off and it has a massive impact on our mental health."

Stacey has long been a supporter of taking a break from social media, often keeping her phone in a drawer for one day a week.

Many stars, including Sam and Jade, posed with the circle logo on their hands last night before switching off their social media accounts.

Countless other stars, including the sprawling casts of the various Love Islands and various other shows, simply didn't report for duty on Instagram as they normally would.
