STACEY Solomon has given fans an update on her breastfeeding journey – revealing baby Rose had tongue tie and was on the jaundice path.
The 32-year-old was heartbroken when she was unable to feed her son Rex, but has been left feeling “positive” after sorting out a series of issues with her daughter early on.
In a lengthy, late night post, the mum-of-four, explained: “So it’s a lonnnggg story… I’ve never felt so comfortable feeding but…
“She was on the jaundice pathway so I immediately topped her up with formula for the first 5 days because I didn’t want her to end up in hospital like Rex.
“She quickly went down to a good number so I cut out the formula…”
Jaundice is a common and usually harmless condition in newborn babies that causes yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes.
The new mum continued: “I also had her checked for tongue tie on day one (because of the struggles I had with Rex) and she had a tongue tie so we had it cut on day 3 by the same person who helped me with Rex’s tongue tie that we only found out about when he was 3 months old @babytonguetie.
Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) is where the strip of skin connecting the baby's tongue to the bottom of their mouth is shorter than usual. It can restrict the tongue’s movement, making it difficult to breastfeed.
Stacey went on to describe how things “clicked” after that, saying: “She was constantly on my boobs for about 5 days after I cut out the formula but it was so worth it because now I feel like I’m actually doing it for the first time in four babies I feel like it finally clicked.”
Stacey is however aware that breastfeeding is always smooth sailing and she has to wait for Rose’s next weigh in to see if she is gaining weight.
She went on to praise other mothers feeding their babies and offered some words of encouragement.
