Tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing professional routine opened with Amy Dowden waiting for her beau to return home from the war. However, as the soldier walked towards his beloved, fans quickly realised he wasn’t a professional dancer they’d seen before. Neither hosts Tess Daly or Claudia Winkleman addressed who the performer was when the show opened.

As the highly emotive routine continued, viewers rushed to Twitter to demand answers from BBC series.

“Who was he? Dancing at the start #scd #strictly,” one viewer asked.

Another commented: “Um who is this fella that Amy is dancing with? #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”

A third continued: “#Strictly ok who is that dancer in the glasses!”

Many were thrilled with the new addition with another asking: “Who’s the new handsome dancer? #strictly

“Who’s this work experience lad starting the dance? #Strictly,” a fifth tweeted.

Tonight will see one more celebrity eliminated from the competition after the stars took on Movie Week.

The leaderboard switched up last night with previous frontrunners Maisie Smith and HRVY being kicked off the top spots.

Ranvir Singh and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice topped the leaderboard with a score of 27.

Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse also thrilled the judges with their Paso Doble which received 26 points.

Commenting on last night’s scoring, former professional dancer James Jordan branded it a “joke”.

James, 42, has remarked the show has been “let down in many cases where the theme has become more important than the dancing”.

He said he felt Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer were being made into the “joke act” of the series.

“They are making him the joker but he could be better”.

Bookies think Jamie is safe from the dance-off this week after he scored 23 points for his Charleston.

His odds of being sent home are now priced at 8/1.

Last night, James told his 271,000 followers on his official Twitter account he felt the scoring was off.

“I feel tonight #StrictlyComeDancing has been let down in many cases where the theme has become more important that the dancing (not everyone),” he wrote.

“I also feel the leaderboard tonight is a joke and now someone that shouldn’t, could actually go.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 7.10pm.
