Filming for The Big Bang Theory season 12 finished last week to outpourings of “love and gratitude” from the cast.
The next process of the long goodbye to the CBS show is to dismantle the set and Leonard star Johnny Galecki has recorded this.
He posted a video on Instagram showing the process and included some typical irony from the show.
The post was captioned: “Breaking down the @bigbangtheory_cbs sets on Warner Bros Stage 25. Coincidental soundtrack apropos.”
The music playing in the background was The Beatles’ Help, which sums up perfectly the cast’s feelings as they contemplate a life without the show.
Fans agreed with Johnny at how sad the scene was.
One fan replied: “That’s the saddest thing ever. It’s real now. It’s over.”
Another added: “My heart is breaking.”
A third wondered what was going to happen to the set: “Are they going to save the set and set it up somewhere like they did with the cafe from Friends?”
He was among the cast members most distraught at the final episode filming coming to an end, signalling the end of the whole series.
That was tough. That was the first… miniature death
Jim Parsons
On the day of final filming, he posted a photo of the door to apartment 4B, where Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) live and said: “More feelings than words can express.”
He was not the only one. Jim Parsons posted a photo of Leonard and wife Penny Hofstadter’s (Kaley Cuoco) apartment door and said: “Knock, knock, knock, thank you… Thank you, apartment 4A, for being a home to so many dreams come true, to so many friendships made.
“And thank YOU, ALL of you – yes, YOU, reading this right NOW!
“As we get ready to tape our final episode tonight, to walk in and out of this apartment door for the last time, it is hard to find the words to articulate what a profound experience this has been.
“But the words ‘love’ and ‘gratitude’ come to mind… so love and gratitude to all of you. ALL of you. Thank you.”
He has also spoken about how he felt on the final day filming and told TV Line the worst part was the group hug at the start of filming because it was going to be the last ever time.
He said: “That was tough. That was the first… miniature death.
One person who might not have to say goodbye to her character forever is Penny star Kaley.
She has teased she will do a Penny spinoff on one condition.
The hour-long series finale will be released May 16.
The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays on CBS and in the UK on E4.
