Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace was blasted by viewers on Monday’s repeat of ITV’s quiz show as he failed to answer five questions correctly in the Final Chase, allowing the contestants to win big. Host Bradley Walsh was joined by four eager contestants, all wanting to win big, with only two getting through to the Final Chase, although just as the stage looked set for the Chaser to win, a number of incorrect answers led the team to victory.

After battling it out in their cash-builder rounds, contestants Dave and Alison managed to bring a staggering £40,000 to the Final Chase.

Building their steps, they managed to get 19 in front of Shaun before he came out and began his attempt to stop them.

However, despite his best effort, he became stumped on five of the questions, which allowed Dave and Alison to push him back and buy themselves some more time.

The pair celebrated their win as the timer ended, with Shaun looking disappointed at his performance.

Viewers of the show took to Twitter to express their opinions on Shaun’s performance, with @loispp writing: “He’s b****red it!! #thechase.”

@buncie44 added: “#TheChase Shaun costing ITV more money just as well he is only on once a week!”

@habbyhatter commented: “Is there a reason why Shaun is still a chaser? #thechase.”

While @hpchlo claimed: “Well thrown Shaun #thechase,” alongside a clapping hands emoji.

Realising his slip-up in the Final Chase, Shaun admitted he was disappointed as he rushed a question regarding the location of Senegal.

Shaun got its neighbouring ocean wrong which, if he had answered correctly, would’ve given him the golden opportunity to catch the team.

Bradley also shouted at Shaun during the episode when he told him that Robin Hood never existed.

Bradley asked Shaun: “Most famous archer Britain has ever produced?”

To which Shaun replied: “Erm… I can’t think really?” with Alison stepping in and answering: “Robin Hood.”

“Well, he never really existed,” Shaun fired back to which Bradley exclaimed: “Aye! Sir Robin of Loxley! Are you winding me up!

“Sir Robin of Loxley actually existed, he was King John’s best mate they used to play cards together, apparently, I think… did he not exist?”

Shaun explained: “No, because Robin of Loxley was a loyal servant of Richard I, not King John, so you got that wrong, in folklore.”

At the beginning of the episode, contestant Richard was first up and built an impressive £5,000 in his cash-builder but was unfortunately unable to make it back to the rest of the team.

Abbi was up next and only managed to build £2,000 in her cash-builder, and despite feeling confident about her knowledge, was knocked out of her round against Shaun.

Both Dave and Alison built a staggering £7,000 in their cash-builder round, however, Dave decided to take Shaun’s offer of £40,000.

As they celebrated their win, Bradley asked what they would spend the money on with Dave replying: “Paying for that bathroom, get me a nice guitar and spend some on the family.”

Alison said: “That will be a nice holiday.”

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
