The Diplomat – Official Netflix trailer

The Diplomat has made its way onto Netflix with all eight episodes dropping on the streaming service.

During an international crisis, diplomat Kate Wyler (played by Keri Russell) is appointed ambassador to the UK as she juggles politics with her turbulent marriage behind closed doors.

As part of her new role, Kate is expected to work closely alongside the Conservative Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) who isn’t exactly the easiest person to deal with.

Nevertheless, they must communicate properly after a British aircraft carrier experiences a fatal attack by unknown sources.

Netflix subscribers will most likely recognise actor Kinner from a number of other popular shows and films throughout his vibrant career.

Those who are fans of the James Bond franchise are bound to remember Kinnear as Bill Tanner, an employee of the Secret Intelligence Service who acts as M’s (Ralph Fiennes) chief of staff.

He featured in Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre and No Time to Die which all starred actor Daniel Craig in the leading role.

Regarding his other works on the big screen, the 45-year-old has featured in Men, Bank of Dave, The Imitation Game and Man Up, just to name a few.

Kinnear also has an extensive resume for his TV projects over the years.

He starred in the Showtime horror series Penny Dreadful, as well as its spin-off City of Angels as The Creature and Peter Craft respectively.

Kinnear took on a more comedic role in the BBC sitcom Count Arthur Strong as Michael Baker for three seasons.

Some of his other minor roles have been in Years and Years, Inside No 9, Our Flag Means Death and Ridley Road.

The Diplomat isn’t the first show that Kinnear is playing a Prime Minister though.

Back in 2011, he starred in the first-ever episode of Black Mirror, entitled The National Anthem, as Prime Minister Michael Callow.

He is informed that a beloved member of the Royal Family has been kidnapped and to ensure her safe return, Callow had to have sex with a pig live on national television.

To protect them, Callow went ahead with the kidnappers’ requests which made for disturbing scenes, setting up Black Mirror to become one of the most memorable shows.

The Diplomat is available to watch on Netflix.
