The Witcher is Netflix’s next huge video game adaptation in TV show form.
Fans of the franchise were ecstatic when they saw the announcement that Henry Cavill – best known as Superman, or August Walker from Mission Impossible: Fallout – would be taking the role of Geralt of Rivia, the franchise’s titular character.
Netflix has today released some brand new images of The Witcher’s TV adaptation, which include a first look at Ciri and Yennefer.
First of all, however, a new image shows Geralt standing on a cliffside, wearing his iconic armor, and bearing one of his swords.
As revealed by how his sword’s hilt is pointing, this is the silver sword, and is only used for fighting supernatural creatures.
With the upcoming season’s plot mostly a mystery, fans of the franchise may see a somewhat less political thriller than they may expect, as Geralt takes on the forces of nature before delving into the forces of man.
Geralt’s journey may be focussed on the show’s source material – the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski – which first see the appearance of Ciri in book one.
Ciri, who will be played by Freya Allan – who viewers may recognise from Into The Badlands – seems to be an older version of the story’s character.
Ciri is best known for being the princess whose father gave her up to Geralt for keeping her safe as a child in the source material’s book: The Last Wish, before becoming a Witcher herself.
The images of Ciri show a close-up shot of her face, as well as a shot of her walking through some woods looking lost, wearing some sort of resplendant gown.

Could this be a hint that she has not yet begun her Witcher training in the show’s current universe?
If this is true, she may still be part of the kingdom she is destined to exit.
The images also picture Yennefer – who is being played by Wanderlust’s Anya Chalotra.
Yennefer is Geralt’s greatest love, who often gets into trouble, and frequently drags Geralt himself into some bad situations.
Famous for her distinct smell of lilac and gooseberries, Yennefer often causes trouble with her magic, and mischeivous, selfish ways.
Yennefer can be seen in one of her lesser-known outfits – a black, fur-lined coat and dress – whilst holding a dagger with her left hand.
Fans of the franchise do not yet know whether Geralt and Yennefer know eachother, but if they do, tensions will surely be high – as they were when readers were first introduced to her.
Eventually Yennefer finds herself in a lot of trouble with The Wild Hunt – a malevolent force looking to take her down.
Will this be one of the stories the show ventures into in the future?
The Witcher is expected to arrive on Netflix this year.
